Overview

Analyze, diagnose, and make necessary repairs to all College HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems. Report problems, as they occur, to the shift manager. This position will be required to work during delays and snow closure days that may fall on scheduled workdays. Will be required to work overtime on short notice to include evenings, weekends, special events and call ins at the discretion of the appropriate supervisor. Additionally, may occasionally be required to drive out-of-area. Work hours are determined by the College and are subject to change, academic year and summer hours are established to meet the needs of the department and the College. Will be required to be on a rotational on call schedule.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 2 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Weekends and overtime as needed. 

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Documented completion of technical courses in a plumbing, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration school, institute, or branch of Armed Services. Required
  • Graduation from a plumbing, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration trade school or completion of a formal training program recognized by the industry or trade. Preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Four (4) years of recent full-time experience as a commercial/industrial/institutional plumbing, HVAC&R mechanic or educational and work experience equal to Four (4) years. Required
  • Extensive experience in maintenance/repair of plumbing, heating, air conditioning and small appliances. Preferred

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of plumbing, heating, refrigeration, air conditioning and electrical theory, practices and techniques, and applicable code regulations. Required
  • Ability to read diagrams, blueprints, and control prints. Required
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Required
  • Must have good communication skills in order to deal with staff and populous of College facilities. Required
  • Possession of basic computer skills. Required

 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical equipment and facilities on the main campus as well as the remote campuses. Equipment and systems include but are not limited to:
    • Hot water boilers
    • Warm air furnaces
    • Heat pumps air/air, ground source
    • AHU's with D.X. coils as well as chilled water coils
    • In wall AC and PTAC Units
    • Refrigeration compressors
    • Condensers
    • Large base-mounted pumps
    • Walk-in refrigerators and freezers
    • Building Access Controls
  • Diagnose plumbing, heating, cooling, and electrical problems/emergencies with existing equipment.Install, repair, and maintain existing electrical items such as motors, wiring, switches, controls, actuators, relays, lamps, and small appliances.Install, bend, cut, and thread pipe and fittings that will withstand steam, water, or air pressure.Install, repair, and maintain plumbing fixtures.Clean, inspect, repair, or replace pipelines, filters, traps, strainers, valves, safety valves, relief valves, pressure regulators, etc.Change compressors when needed.Change and adjust expansion devices as needed.Repair and replace malfunctioning or worn components of existing air conditioning & refrigeration systems.Evacuate air conditioning and refrigeration systems and properly rechargeUpdate work order system as work is generated and completed.Assist with on and off campus events; set ups/tear downs/event coverage.Assist with additional tasks and projects as needed.

  • ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attend continuing education programs for self-improvement and equipment maintenance information.
  • Physical Standards and Special Job Features

    • Exposure to dust, dirt, and some chemicals in HVAC and electrical products.
    • May require climbing or working off of ladders and scaffolding.
    • Lifting of 65 lbs. maximum, without assistance, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lbs.

    Pay Transparency

    $24.46 per hour, plus shift differential
