Overview

The Residence Life Intern will assist with all aspects of the Residence Life program. This position will require a flexible scheduled to include evening and weekend hours to meet the needs of the Residence Life program. This position will receive housing and dining dollars during the summer.

 

Schedule: Monday–Thursday from 8:00 AM–5:00 PM and Fridays from 7:30 AM–1:00 PM, following the College’s summer hours. During Academic year hours will be scheduled around candidates' classes, Residence Life covers 8am-8pm Monday- Friday. 

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Program. Required
  • Must be a Penn College Student if working during the Academic Year. Required.

  • Bachelor's Degree in appropriate discipline. Preferred
  • Enrollment in a graduate program in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or relevant discipline. Preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience in residence life or other areas of student affairs. Preferred

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Evidence of creativity and ingenuity in developing programs and solving problems. Required
  • Developed organizational skills. Required
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form. Required
  • Ability to train and motivate people. Required
  • Self-starter. Required

 

Responsibilities

  • Summer Student Housing: Assist with the oversight and direction of approximately 4 Summer Resident Assistants. Complete the administrative tasks of an apartment style residence hall complex (check-in/check-out, apartment turn over and maintenance, keys, etc.)
  • Summer Conference Housing: Provide direct oversight of the activities and daily routines of junior high and high school students who are residing on campus to participate in camps. This includes serving in the role of a live-in counselor during the College's camp week, implementing activities for the students during the evenings, and escorting students between camp activities during the day while adhering to all established protocols to assure the safety of camp participants. Participate in the check-in/check-out process for conference and orientation groups on campus throughout the summer.
  • Facility Management and Operations: Work as part of the Residence Life central office to observe and assist with summer operations. Coordinate housing tours on special visitation days throughout the summer. Observe and participate in other administrative functions within Residence Life throughout the summer (housing assignments, occupancy management, customer service both in person and on the telephone, and special projects).

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Involvement with other committees/special projects and departmental operations as interest is expressed by the intern.

Physical Standards and Special Job Features

  • May require some lifting of program materials not to exceed 50 lbs.
  • Ability to move freely about campus.

Pay Transparency

Hourly rate is $15.00.
