Overview

This position is responsible for performing College office and equipment moves, as well as event set-ups and tear-downs as directed by the Facilities Supervisor. In addition, the individual will support the General Services area by assisting with general housekeeping and custodial duties as needed. This person will be required to work during delays and snow closure days that fall within scheduled workdays and may be on call during snow emergencies. Overtime and irregular work hours may be required on short notice, including evenings, weekends, special events, and call-ins, at the discretion of the appropriate supervisor.

 

Work hours are determined by the College and are subject to change based on departmental and institutional needs. Academic year and summer schedules are established to support operational requirements. This position may provide campus-wide coverage, work in multiple buildings or locations, and occasionally require out-of-area travel.

 

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent. Preferred

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Forklift Certification or willingness to be trained or certified prior to performing forklift responsibilities. Required
  •  Valid and in State Valid Driver's License Required

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience operating: pickup truck and van. Required
  • Experience operating skid loader. Required
  • Experience as a custodian. Required
  • Experience operating mechanical lifts. Preferred

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Ability to read, write, and interpret instructions. Required
  • Ability to safely operate: pickup truck and van (standard shift and automatic) and forklift. Required
  • Ability to work from heights. Required
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to diversity and multicultural issues. Required
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with faculty, staff, students and the public. Required
  • Must have training and/or certification in forklift operation or become trained/certified prior to performing forklift responsibilities. Required

 

Responsibilities

  • Dispose of trash.
  • Clean appliances.
  • Empty cigarette urns and clean as necessary.
  • Sweep, dust mop, and wet mop areas.
  • Vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas.
  • Clean fountains, ashtrays, and blackboards.
  • Dust and/or wash areas requiring same.
  • Clean restrooms and replenish supplies.
  • Wash windows and door glass.
  • Clean laundry rooms to include washers and dryers, sinks, and counters.
  • Clean Police guard areas.
  • Clean apartments at the end of each semester or when vacated.
  • Strip and refinish floors and maintain all types of floor surfaces.
  • Sweep stairs and stairwells and wash same.
  • Remove ice and snow from stairs, entrances, and walks.
  • Wash walls, window ledges, woodwork, furnishings; remove graffiti.
  • Replace light bulbs and tubes; clean light fixtures.
  • Keep assigned residence hall facilities stocked with cleaning supplies; submit supply and repair requisitions to Supervisor.
  • Check exterior areas for trash, broken glass, etc., and clean up as necessary.
  • Keep housekeeping equipment clean and perform minor repairs on same.
  • Submit supply and repair requisitions to supervisor.
  • Deliver custodial supplies and equipment.
  • Deliver and pick up equipment for repairs.
  • Haul masonry waste, steel, and donations to and from required locations either manually or with equipment.
  • Relocate offices, shop furnishings, and equipment.
  • Operate pickup truck and van, as needed.
  • Assist with ice and snow removal, general motor pool operations, and ground care as needed.
  • Perform minor maintenance duties.
  • Respond to any accidental spillage, leakage or breakage, including vomit, blood, oil, chemicals, etc.
  • Remove and dispose of instructional materials as necessary.
  • Perform College office and area moves and relocations, equipment relocations, etc.
  • Respond to calls requesting clean-up as needed.
  • When leaving buildings, responsible for seeing that buildings are properly secured.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up areas for special events as requested.
  • Function as an attendant at special College events.
  • May direct the activities of work study students.

Physical Standards and Special Job Features

  • Heavy lifting 65 lbs. maximum, without assistance, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Pushing and/or pulling of objects weighing up to 70 lbs. not to exceed 200 lbs.
  • Work outdoors in extreme conditions.
  • Exposure to dust and harsh chemicals in performing duties.
  • Exposure to elements; wind, rain, snow, ice.
  • May require climbing and working from ladders and scaffolding at high elevations or even roof tops at times.
  • Will travel between building/campuses during shift.

Pay Transparency

$15.98 per hour.
